A mother of two, a workers' compensation adjuster and an aspiring author, K.P. Smith from New Orleans plays many roles in her life. As she was growing up, she always wanted to write a book. And then one day, "Growing Pains" series was born... K.P. Smith answers a few questions for us...
1. What made you enter the world of writing and what is the driving force behind continuing here?
I think we have all experienced saying or thinking “When I grow up I am going to”. Growing Up I always said I was going to write a book. I love a good book with a good story. One day when life happened too many times within a year I thought this was as good as time as any to make it happen so I did.
Why do I continue? Easy, I love it. It has taken a while but I have finally discovered something that is effortless (now getting to the best seller’s list isn’t). But the art of writing is easy it flows out of me. This is what I was born to do.
2. Besideswriting, what else do you do for a living? Please share some thoughts about your this work as well.
By day I am a worker’s compensation adjuster. Oh OMG hate to say it but I want to be honest. All the joy I get from writing I get the opposite being an adjuster. But I am good at it and it has been provided me a good living for the past 14 years.
3. Any plans to quit this job and taking to writing as a full time occupation in nearfuture?
YES! YES! YES!
4. Whichspecific genre would you associate yourself with? Why did you choose thisgenre? Any plans to try out a new genre?
My first series is a YA series. I choose that because I wanted to help the youth and offer some encouragement and inspiration during the journey/mage of growing up. I am hoping to give some insight and inspiration.
I have thought about adult function will see where this path takes me.
5. How idea of “ Growing Pains “ come to you? Any real life incident influenced you?
I started writing the book and one day when I was writing a scene that was close to my own experience I remember thinking wow that was a painful experience. But I looked back and saw as painful as it was then it had helped me out later. It is all apart of the process of this thing we called life. Sometimes it takes pain to Grow.
6. Shedsome light on your upcoming work and when can we expect them to be out?
I am currently working on the second book in the series tentatively titled New Beginnings. All I will say it should be out sometime in 2012!LOL!
I have started my own Publishing Company; Doin It Publishing. I would like to take on new writers such as myself and help them find their voice and their audience.
I have also just started an outreach community organization; Open Hearts Opened Hands. We are just starting out but looking for ways to help those in our community who need it.
7. You are a proud mother as you say. Has motherhood played a major role on shaping the plot of your book?
Being a mom hasn’t shaped my plot. But it does inspire me to keep pressing no matter what. And to give this dream of mine everything I have. By doing that I want to set an example for my two sons that with faith, determination and perseverance you can make your dreams come true.
8. What plays a major role in selling a book, content or marketing?
I know the most accepted answer is content but in the day of Pop Culture I think Marketing is more important than Content.
I always say a book only becomes a best seller if people BUY it!!
9. Whatis the most cherished moment of your life? Something that you would wish torelive again.
I cannot pin point just one. I will say I have learned that every day is a gift and this thing is not a sprint but a marathon. And in the end the good and the bad will even out to be all GOOD!
10. Anymajor regret in life till date?
Of course but life happens just get up and dust yourself up; Stay Positive, Keep it Moving and Never Give Up!
